The cycling trip is made for a public older then 12 years.
The
trip is organized with luggage transport.
Trip in the Nature Park Apuseni
This is a round trip around lake Fintinele in the northwestern
part of the Apuseni Mountains. Because lots of mountain roads are not asphalted
this trip can be considered a "Hybrid trip"
(means there are harder parts because of the road
conditions - but it is not a mountain-bike
trip). You’ll ride your bike through authentic
villages and beautiful mountain landscapes. You stay in guestrooms and you'll
have a lot of contact with the local
population, their habits and folklore. Part of the trip goes along asphalted secondary
roads, other parts along forestry roads. There is some climbing involved in each trip.
Therefore we kept distances short.
Accommodation is provided in guestrooms. Some guestrooms have private bathrooms,
some have shared bathrooms. Each evening you’ll enjoy a typical local dinner. Mornings you’ll have a
continental breakfast, with lots of artisan products, homegrown vegetables.
Food will be provided to prepare your lunch packet. Your luggage will be
transported from location to location. You'll get a detailed road description
and map.
Highlights of the program:
- Cheile Somesul Cald: beautiful wild canyon near the village Rusesti, watermill
and wooden church in the village.
- Lake Fintinele:
a beautiful accumulation lake at 1000m altitude.
- Rachitele waterfall: 24m high waterfall.
- Churches of Sancraiu, Valeni, Manastireni: famous walled churches of the
Kalotaszeg region, so called by the ethnic Hungarians.

THE PROGRAM
Day 1
Arrival, introduction
and acquaintance in Sancraiu, a small ethnic Hungarian village in the Apuseni
Mountains near Huedin.
Day 2
Cycling trip to Valeni, Manastireni and Risca. It is a trip along small villages where it
looks as time went by without much changes. You're
traveling through the kalotaszeg region with
beautiful walled churches. Distance 20km, level
difference 400m climbing. All asphalted roads.
Day 3
Cycling trip to the settlements Dealu Mare, Lapustesti. In Lapustesti is a
nice painted church. From there it goes 7km down along
a winding road to the village Rusesti. In the village
you can visit the wild Somesu Cald canyon. There is in
the village a working watermill and "piua"
(that's a system connected to the waterwheel to beat
the textiles, to clean them better) There is also a
lovely wooden church. Distance
30 km, (all gravel and dirt roads) level difference
450m descending. Day 4
It goes to the village Marisel. It's a 14 km long climb (on an asphalted
road). Marisel is on top of the huge plateau and lies
at 1200m altitude. It is one of the highest
settlements of the Apuseni Mountains. From Marisel it
goes down to the lake and along the lake to the
village Poiana Horea and you enter the Nature Park
Apuseni. This is a settlement in the
middle of a huge forest between the "big
Mountain" and the Vladeasa Mountain. Distance
40km. 600m climbing, 200m descending. About the whole
trip along asphalted roads. Day 5
Day of rest. If
you want to make a roundtrip, you can cycle to Padis
nature reserve. (there are a lot of caves, wild
canyons and enormous dolines.) It is not an easy trip
and is often more mountain biking then cycling.
Another round trip can be made to the Glacier cave of
Scarisoara. Again, the trip is partly more mountain
biking then cycling Day 6
First part of the trip goes to the village Scrind, at the border of Lake
Fintinele. From there it goes to Doda Pilii, a
harvester settlement along the Somesu Cald river. You
cycle through the Firei valley and climb the prislop
pass. (1250m) From there it goes down to Scrind
where you stay for the night. Distance 35km, 400m
climbing, 400 m descending. The whole trip is along
asphalt, gravel and dirt roads. Day 7
In the morning you can visit the Rachitele waterfall. Then it goes to the
village Sacuieu, all level cycling through the Hent
valley. From Sacuieu you go to Alunisu
and climb along the "Wolves valley". From Alunisu it
goes again level along an asphalted road to Sancraiu
where you started your trip.
Distance 30
km, level difference 150m climbing and 150m descending. Trip partly along gravel
roads, partly asphalted road.
