The hiking trip links 2 of Romania's main mountain regions. The Bucegi Mountains
and the Piatra Craiului Mountains. The Bucegi
Mountains are
known for their colorful diversity in plants and it's strange erosions. They
are the most visited mountains in Romania.
You make a hike to the highest
top, the Omu peak at 2505m and a roundtrip through the beautiful nature reserves.
Most foreign visitors are amazed about the enormous variety of wild plants
and flowers all over Romania. You will find all kind of orchids, gentians,
campanulas and 12% of the plants are endemic to the Carpathian Mountains.
You have a good chance to make nice pictures of the wild chamois.
Piatra Craiului Mountains are Romania's most loved mountains, a small but beautiful limestone ridge from
where you have superb views over the surrounding country. The mountain ridge has
the biggest bio-diversity of the country.
Brasov is
built at the base of the Carpathian Mountain ridge to
protect the fertile Burzenland from the east. Nearby
other fortifications were built at Risnov (Rosenau),
Rupea (Reps) and Bran. The unique location at the foot
of the mountains and the short distance to the ski
resort Poiana Brasov just 10km away made from Brasov a
fascinating tourist attraction year round. A part of the
old fortifications can still be seen and visited today.
There is a funicular running up the Tampa hill from where
you have superb views over the town. There is the magnificent
Black church (the biggest Gothic building that far east)
and there are several museums.
The trip starts in Sinaia and goes
over the Bucegi Mountains, - Plateau Bran, the Piatra
Craiului Mountains, Bran, Risnov and ends in Brasov
The trip is made with luggage
transport. Accommodation is provided in hotel or
guestrooms with private bathroom (except in Zarnesti
where you have rooms with shared bathrooms).
Meals (breakfast, lunch-packet, dinner) are included
except lunch and dinner day11.

The program
Day 1:
Arrival in Sinaia, visit Peles castle
and Sinaia Monastery.
Day 2:
Hiking trip from Sinaia in the Bucegi
mountains. You climb the Bucegi mountain by the Piatra
Arsa and cross the Cocora Mountains. Descend in the
Ialomita Valley and visit of the monastery and cave.
You stay overnight in Hotel Pestera (there is even
sauna and swimming pool) In the evening you have a
very good chance to see brown bear. Accommodation
hotel rooms** Hiking 6-7 hours, 1200 m climbing, 450 m
descending.
Day 3:
Trip Pestera - Ialomitei waterfall -
Glaciara Obīrsia valley -
Mecetul Turcesc limestone cliffs - Omu peak (2505m) -
descent via Gaura valley to village Moieciu de Sus. It
is a very spectacular trip where you climb the highest
peak of Romania, the Omu with 2507m, you hike in the
famous glacier valley Gaura where you have a very good
chance to see chamois on the vertical walls of the
Doamnele and Gaura Mountains. Moieciu de Sus is a
picturesque mountain village at 1000m altitude. You
sleep in guestrooms with private bathrooms.
Hiking 9
hours, 1100 m
climbing, 1500 m descending.
Day 4:
Roundtrip from Moieciu de Sus along the
Grohotisului Valley, the Strunga saddle at 1909m, the
western flanks of the Bucegi with the Batrina peak at
2181 m and Coltii Tapului at 2168 m. A
fascinating trip along the vertical limestone cliffs
of western wall of the Bucegi mountains. You will have
spectacular views over Bran country, the Iezer Papusa
Mountains south-west, the Leaota mountains to the
south and the Piatra
Craiului ridge to the west. Back it goes at the foot
of the vertical walls of the Bucegi ridge along the
Gutana sheepfold and through a lovely evergreen forest
back to the guesthouse.

climbing, 1250m descending.
Day 5:
Hiking trip from
Moieciu de Sus through the karst landscape of
the Fundatica mountains. You come along the
authentic village Fundata, known for its famous smoked
cheese and the different natural syrups made from
forest fruits. It goes further to the village Sirnea
where the lovely wooden farms are scattered over the
mountains. Accommodation in guestrooms in Sirnea.
Hiking 7-8 hours, 550 m climbing, 450 m descending.
Day 6:
Trip to the natural park Piatra Craiului.
You climb the Curmatura depression and descend to the
foot of the vertical cliffs of the Piatra Craiului
ridge. You'll walk over small meadows with sheepfolds
and along the
Vladusca valley. After that through the spectacular
Pisicii canyon only 2-3m wide and with 150m high
vertical walls. After that you come in the fascinating
canyon Prapastiile Zarnestilor, with even higher
vertical walls. It goes further to the village
Zarnesti where you stay in guestrooms for the night.
Hiking 6-7 hours, 450 m climbing, 750 m descending.
Day 7:
Roundtrip on the Piatra Craiului
ridge. You climb the
Crapaturii valley till the Crapaturii saddle at 1600m
from where you have superb views over the whole Piatra
Craiului ridge. Further you come in a region with a
very abundant flora with some very rare flowers and
you arrive at the Piatra Mica peak above 1800m. You
descend again by the the Zanoaga meadow and the karst
spring Fintana lui Botorog. Accommodation again in
Zarnesti.
Hiking 8-9 hours, climbing 1100m, descending
1100m.
Day 8:
Hike to the mountain
village Magura at 1000m altitude. It is a trip along
the famous Tohanului hill. Hike through the forest,
over open meadows, scattered patches of forest, hay
and farmland. You climb the Magura Mica 1375 m and
descend to the former border walls between
Transylvania and Wallachia. Bran is worldwide known because its
medieval castle was a long time promoted as Dracula
castle. The original fortress was built by the Brasov
merchants to protect them against invading Tartars,
Turks and migrating people (1377). Once was here the
border between Transylvania and Wallachia. Later the
fortress was transformed to a castle and in the
beginning of the 20th century Queen Elisabeth lived in
the castle. You can visit the castle and it looks as it
was during the reign of king Carol and Queen Elisabeth.

Hiking 5-6 hours, 600m
climbing, 600m descending.
Day 9:
Hiking trip from Bran to Risnov. Hiking
trip along the
Oprisului ridge and the villages Bradul and Sohodol
and the Panicerului valley. You arrive in the village
Risnov where we visit the fascinating Risnov fortress. The original fortress was
built by the Teutonic knights in wood. They were
demanded by the Hungarian king to protect the country
against invading Tartars and migrating people. The
oldest parts of the medieval fortress are built in the
beginning of the 14th century. It is very
large fortress and the whole village could find shelter
within the walls in around 30 small houses. The fortress
got in decline but is being restored since a couple of
years and looks again as it was in the middle ages.

hours, 300m climbing, 450m descending.
Day 10:
Hiking trip over the ski resort Poiana
Brasov to the medieval town Brasov. The
trip starts through the forest and along the
Cernit ridge. You come along the Rasnoavei cave and
the Paginilor church. nearby is a rock formation in
the shape of a shepherds hat and the legend tells that
at that place, named Templul Idolilor, the
people had the right to make offerings. nearby you
have nice views over the Postavarul and Bucegi massifs.
You descend from Poiana Brasov and enter directly the
historic center of Brasov. Accommodation in guestrooms
in Brasov.
Hiking 7 hours, 600 m climbing, 650 m
descending.
Day 11:
breakfast, end of program.
